Yes, I am still dealing with the broken toe! I went to the doctors last week and the X-ray showed no bone growth since surgery! Although I can wear shoes and walk okay, I still have a weird gimp but I think that is just getting used to walking on my foot again. I have been at the gym doing the elliptical and stair master. I tried running but I only lasted about 5 minutes then my foot starting throbbing.
Okay so the point of this post is that my toe is not healing but I am able to get around and function pretty well.
The doctor got me a "Ultrasound bone healing system," it goes around the fracture site and stimulates (as the doctor explained it really just "shakes") the fracture site to make your body realize the bone is still broken! The Doctors think that since it has been so long my body doesn't realize the toe is still broken. So I have to use this little device every day for 20 minutes. It is just like an ultrasound, jelly and all!

I FINALLY WORE HEELS AGAIN!!
I had my work Christmas party this on Sunday and I wasn't going to get all dressed without heels, so Jeff and I went to the mall to find a cute pair of heels I could cram my feet into. I was looking for something low but I love my high heels so I think I got the highest heels I could find. The doctor said to work on desensitizing my toe, I definetly did a good job of that!

Foot Update
Well the foot seems to healing a little. I was able to go to the gym and actually ride the bike for about 15 minutes. The past fews weeks once I walk in and do some weights my foot is killing me, so this has been a good improvement. I am still sporting the boot as my foot is still swollen and hurts if anything is too thight around it. I go back to the doctors after Thanksgiving for an X ray to be sure it is healing, but overall it looks a lot better!

This will make your stomach turn!
This morning the yellow steri strip fell off and the stitches are now exposed. It is disgusting and I am a huge baby when it comes to this. Here are a couple pictures for those of you with strong stomachs!

Another Day Recovering
Well, today my parents headed home and Jeff and I have tried to be lazy on the couch. But I am not so good at sitting still. For example today I thought I would get some of the magazines out of the closet and I totally lost my balance and feel into the basket in the closet. Jeff had to come over and pick me up to get me back on my foot and I walked away with a nice scrape to my arm for which Jeff had to get me a big band aid...woops..... I am such a klutz!
However, the main event of today was that I was finally allowed to shower and take off the gauze from surgery. The cut is a longer than I thought it would be but you can't really see to much because the doctor covered it up with a "steri strip."
But some of you seem curious to see the foot uncovered so we took a couple pictures for those of you that are interested. You can click on the link below I didn't want to post them for those of you that would prefer not to see.

Family Visit
After surgery my family came over to visit and "babysit" while Jeff went out with some friends. And yes, I felt like the babysitter had arrived when my sister, Jason and Jacob walked in the door. Jeff was on his way out the door and gave my sis the details for taking care of me and I quote:
1. She had her meds at 9:30 so make sure she takes more around 1:30
2. Don't let her go upstairs
3. Make sure she keeps her leg elevated...
hello...I am right here...I know even if I don't listen....but thanks for looking out for me!
Well, it was a fun day...my parents arrived shortly after Meg and then my Aunt and Grandma came over to see the baby. I still wasn't feeling great and was trying to get over the sickness and tiredness that had me down all day on Friday, but I was feeling much better overall on Saturday.
I posted some pics of the day. It was a fun and it was nice to have everyone here to babysit me since that included cooking dinner and cleaning while I watched more tv.
Thank you guys for everything it was fun to have people to keep me company and not care that I hadn't showered in 3 days (doctor orders)!!

Surgery
Today was surgery day! We got to the hospital for check in around 7:30 and I had my first IV ever (those hurt going in!!) but I was surprisingly calm. Surgery was at 9:30 and started right on time. The whole process went so smoothly.
I was afraid of how I would wake up from anesthesia because I had heard about all the crazy stories and then the Doctors warned me and vomiting and many other fun side effects. So I impressed myself by waking up very well from the anesthesia which meant I was out of the recovery in 45 minutes. The guy next to me (that was snoring way loud) had been in there almost two hours, I was glad that wasn't me.
So after recovery they wheeled me into my room and I had the nurse send in Jeff, Mom, Aunt Tami and Grandma. The nurses made me drink some juice and I got to chat every ones ears off about one of the doctor whose name was Dr. Omally, too bad his first name wasn't George, that would have been way cool. Anyways, I hung out in the room with the family for about an hour and was out of the hospital at 12:30. We were so impressed about how early we were able to make it home.
The doctor said surgery went well. He thought he would need to do a bone graph from my ankle or heel but said once he got in the bones were in better shape than he had expected and he was able to put a screw in without adding additional bone. I think I was more nervous about recovering from the bone graph than just the toe surgery so I am really happy with how the surgery turned out.
Once we got home from the hospital I had a nice time hanging out with my Mom watching lots of Oprah, Take Home Chef and watching Mom sleep. I actually haven't been too tired yet but I am sure that will change once the drugs wear off but I am glad that Mom got to nap before having to drive home since we went to bed late last night and had to get up super early this morning.
Well, I am off to watch a movie and hang out with Jeff but I have to take a minute to brag about what a amazing husband and family I have:
Jeff is such a wonderful husband and is taking such good care of me. He is so patient and loving with me I am so lucky. Thanks love, I love you! And Mom thank you so much for driving up and keeping me company all day. It was comforting to have you with me through all this. I appreciate all that you did for me to help me and keep to me off my foot. And Tami and Grandma thank you so much for being there for me today! It was fun to laugh with you guys hang out before/after surgery, I love you guys! Meghan I just wanted say I love you and I can't wait to see you. I am glad you can come up after surgery instead of during because then I get to hang out with you and hold baby Jacob. I hope he is feeling better soon. Love you!

Foot Update #3
Well, the CT results are in! The final conclusion is " no signs of healing noted." I even broke the toe worse than I thought, if that was possible. Besides snapping the bone, the part that was snapped off (Jeff says snap is a better word than my cut off bone...I agree with him...okay anyways) I also shattered some of the bone that is separated. No wonder it hurts and won't grow back together!
So I have surgery scheduled for next Thursday and then only another 6 weeks before I can work out again. I can't wait to get off my lazy butt and do something, anything, I can't even shop! But this is making me study and work lots! Oh well I guess I can internet shop...check this out I got the coolest things for the crutches. I am going to be a styling gimp! Go me!!

New foot Update #2
I went to the doctors today and the new Xray showed that the bone is not growing back together like it should be. When I was in a couple weeks prior they thought it was looking like it could heal on its own so we opted not to do the surgery. But now they think it is fibrous growth which means they will have to put a screw in my foot to bring the bones back together. They are doing a CT scan on 10/8 and we will find out at that point if surgery will be needed.

Foot Update #1
Well, its official I broke my foot. It is a transverse displaced fracture which means I cut the bone in half. I went to a foot doctor after Jeff and I sat at urgent care for a couple hours. They are not casting it at this point as they might do surgery to put a screw in it to hold the bone together. I am on crutches for a week to help with the healing and have a little boot I have to wear. I hate not being able to walk or work out but Jeff is such a wonderful husband! He is doing everything he can to help me and keep me off my foot along with bringing me ice and making me ice it! Doctors orders!
